Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)

What is it? 

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) programs improve healthcare by identifying problems, implementing and monitoring corrective action, and studying its effectiveness. Every aspect of care is monitored such as access to care, continuity of care, emergency care, deaths, etc. The program is an ongoing cycle of collecting data and using the data to make decisions that will improve program processes.  

Steps 

Basic Process

     1. Identify need/issue 

     2. Describe the current situation 

     3. Analyze the problem 

     4. Test (collect data)

     5. Implement an action plan

     6. Learn

     7. Revise

     8. Repeat 

Needed:

  • A team of administers, community stakeholders, and data specialists

  • a CQI champion 

  • a framework or logic model
